Monitoring of State TV Narratives in Belarus (02/11/2020 – 08/11/2020)

The activity and busy schedule of Aliaksandr Lukashenka was central place, which strengthened the personalistic narrative. In general, the share of ideological stories exceeded 91%.

Another significant narrative was the high level of preparedness of Belarus for the second wave of the coronavirus, especially against the background of the difficult situation in other countries. State channels stressed that the epidemiological situation was personally supervised by Lukashenka and the regional headquarters created by him.

Key narratives can be found in APPENDIX 1

State-run TV reported on the destructive aspirations of the opponents of the authorities as a juxtaposition to the constructive state.

Despite claiming that there was confessional peace, criticism of the "politicization of religion" and personal attacks against Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz continued.

The image of the protesters was again reduced to criminal and inadequate individuals under the influence of "Polish" channels, alcohol or drugs. The topic of "retribution" for Poland and other countries for supporting the protests in Belarus this week was supplemented by a story about the "crisis of American democracy" in connection with the disputes over the winner of the US presidential elections.

Reformism remained a message for the future and was again associated with the upcoming All-Belarusian People's Assembly.

The stories of state-run TV demonstrated the usual lack of pluralism and a high degree of coordination of information policy
